About our project

New Fortress Energy Louisiana FLNG, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of New Fortress Energy, is proposing to build an offshore facility to liquefy natural gas for markets worldwide.

The facility site is 16 nautical miles off the coast of Grand Isle, Louisiana. The site is about the same distance from the Southwest Pass channel of the Mississippi River, Grand Isle, and the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port deepwater port.

The facility will include FLNG1 and FLNG2, each consisting of three connected decks (a staff and utility deck, gas treating deck and gas liquefaction deck), a compressor station on its own self-elevating platform and a floating storage unit (FSU).

FLNG1 will be built on self-elevating platforms and FLNG2 will be built on fixed platforms. Each set of platforms will lift the facility above wave, tidal and current activities. Natural gas will be fed through existing onshore natural gas facilities and pipelines, an existing offshore pipeline and a new offshore lateral pipeline connecting to the natural gas compression rig and treating platforms. Once operational, the facility will produce 2.8 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year.

The facility will also include the FSU docked alongside the platforms. The FSU is a modified vessel which will receive and temporarily store LNG produced by FLNG1 and FLNG2. From there, the LNG will be transferred to incoming LNG carriers via ship-to-ship transfer and exported to markets worldwide.

We will use Chart Industries’ IPSMR® technology for natural gas liquefaction, and partner with Fluor, Baker Hughes and Kiewit for construction and development of the facility.

About New Fortress Energy

We want to light the world. Billions of people around the planet lack access to affordable power. Electricity should not be a luxury good.

Wes Edens founded New Fortress Energy in 2014 with the belief that access to affordable, reliable, cleaner energy is not a privilege, but a human right. Universal access to energy can impact major world issues, from education to poverty reduction to gender equality. Creating that access – in an environmentally responsible way – is our fundamental mission.

We are an energy transition company.

We finance, build and operate LNG-to-power infrastructure to provide cleaner, affordable and reliable energy globally. Natural gas is a lower cost, lower-emissions alternative to oil-based fuels.

Today, we modernize energy and power infrastructure, supplying a more affordable, cleaner fuel—LNG. Tomorrow, we aim to provide zero-emissions hydrogen to replace natural gas.

New Fortress Energy has 11 facilities in 10+ countries that are operational or under development, including in the Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, North America and Asia.
